The star of the show is the curious and idealistic Moomintroll, voiced superbly by actor Taron Egerton, who takes the audience on an adventure into the magical world of Moominvalley, an idyllic place entirely untouched by the modern world. As we follow the story of Moomintroll’s growth and encounters with his family and other creatures, we learn more about our own humanity, relationships and emotions – and especially about love. The lovable troupe of characters include Moomintroll’s parents Moominmamma and Moominpappa, his best friend, Snorkmaiden, the fearless Little My, the wise Snufkin and many more.

Moomintroll is passionate about life and revels in feeling emotions intensely. Keen to explore the world around him, his curiosity can get him in trouble, but his bravery and resilience will always see him home safely.

His friend and playmate Snorkmaiden is quick-witted and brave when she needs to be and often comes up with a plan to get them out of scrapes!

Calm and collected, Moominmamma is the reassuring foundation of the Moomin family. Patient and tolerant, there’s nothing that can upset her equilibrium and everyone who comes into her company loves and respects her. While self-confidence has never been a problem for the dapper, charismatic Moominpappa, who does not believe in making plans but lives for the moment and the thrill of adventure! And there’s quite a star-studded cast lending their vocals… Oscar-nominee Rosamund Pike is the voice of Moominmamma, Warwick Davis (of Harry Potter fame) plays Sniff and guest stars include Jennifer Saunders, Matt Lucas and Kate Winslet! Speaking about the show, Pike said: ‘I think people are going to feel something very comforting in the values that are embodied in the series. It’s the kind of show that I would want my children to watch before going to bed.’

The show is sure to spark nostalgia for many a parent as they curl up to watch it with their children. The Moomin characters were created in book form in 1945 and became very popular on this side of the world as a TV series in the ’80s!

It’s a cartoon for all the family and there are great cultural messages and lessons to be learned throughout the series.

Akiya Henry, who plays Snorkmaiden, said: ‘All the themes across the story are so universal. We all understand about love, family, adventure, exploration, discovery and freedom (or lack of). We all understand and know about personal development… That’s the beauty of Tove Jansson’s work; every single message is a universal message.’

We can’t wait to see it!

Other brilliant shows available on the Sky Kids app that cater for children between the ages of two and twelve include Teen Titans Go!, Sofia the First, Spongebob Squarepants, PAW Patrol, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir and Henry Danger.
